PSE Round-Up: December 28, 2012

PSE Market Summary:

The Philippine Stocks Market was up by 17.84 or .31% to close the year. PSEi is slightly down by 11.21 from 5,823.94 last week. 


ICT Pulls Out of Syria

International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (PSE:ICT) through its wholly-owned subsidiary in Syria filed a notice of termination with Tartous Port General Company (TPGC). The issuance of notice was prompted by TPGCs refusal to negotiate in good faith for relief from the clear imbalance of the parties' economic relationship, constituting a breach of contract agreement. TPGC represents .6% and .4% of ICT's consolidated volume and revenues.


Marubeni Buys 20% Stake in Maynilad

Japanese trading giant Marubeni Corp. is buying a 20% stake in Maynilad Water Services, Inc. DMCI Holdings (PSE:DMC) will reportedly sell 16% of its shares while Metro Pacific Investments (PSE:MPI) will contribute to the remaining 4%.

PSE Market Summary:

The Philippine Stocks Market was up for the second day, gaining 115.80 or 2.05% to close at 5,752.39. Total trades were down to 19,758 with 110 stocks advances, 46 declines and 59 stocks unchanged.

TEL to Sell 80% of a Subsidiary

Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PSE:TEL) is finalizing a deal to sell 80% of its BPO subsidiary, SPI Global Holdings. The transaction is expected to be finalized around January 2013.


ICT Increases Holdings in PICT

International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (PSE:ICT) purchased an additional 6,820,893 shares of Pakistan Container Terminal Ltd. The transaction will push ICT's holdings to 47.88%.

PSE Market Summary:

The Philippine Stocks Market was slightly up by 9.42 points to close at P5,446.71. Total trades reached 27,404 with 51 advances, 99 declines and 59 stocks remaining unchanged.



SM Net Income Rise 14%

SM Investments Corporation (PSE:SM) reported net income of P16.1 billion for the first nine months of 2012, up 14% from P14.2 billion earned same period last year. The growth was mainly attributed to higher earnings in its bank, retail, and mall businesses. SM stocks closed at P799 per share.


IMI Net Income Surge by 209%

Integrated Micro-Electronics Inc. (PSE:IMI) announced its net income of $5 million for the first nine months up 209% from $1.6 million same period last year. The business expansion in Europe and Mexico supported the increase. IMI shares was remain unchanged from P4 at share.


ICT Net Income Up 4%

International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (PSE:ICT) announced its net income attributable to equity holders at $105.8 million for the first nine months from $101.4 million same period last year. ICT shares closed higher by P.20 at P69.40 per share.


FPH Declares Cash Dividend

First Philippine Holdings Corporation (PSE:FPH) declared cash dividend as follow:

GTCAP Core Net Income Up 51%

GT Capital Holdings, Inc. (PSE:GTCAP) reported core net income of P3.9 billion for the first nine months of 2012, up by 51% from P2.6 billion same period last year. The increase was mainly due to expansion of its core businesses and improve net income from associates. GTCAP shares closed at P538, lower by.55% from last trade.

PSE Market Summary:

The Philippine Stocks Market was down for two straight days to close at 5,432.36. Total trades reached 27,053 with 82 stocks advances, 80 declines and 47 stocks unchanged. PSEi is up 62.64 or  1.17% for the week.



ICT Purchases 35% of Pakistan Port Company

International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (PSE:ICT), through its wholly-owned subsidiary, ITSI Mauritius Limited has completed the 35% purchase of Pakistan International Container Terminal Limited. PICT is a publicly listed company in Karachi Stocks Exchange with maximum handling capacity of 750,000 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Container Units. The purhase was priced at 150 PKR per share.

Anglo Philippine Holdings Corporation (PSE:APO) declared cash dividend as follows:

MFIN to Write-Off Bad Debts

The Board of Directors of Manila Finance Corporation (PSE:MFIN) approved to write-off bad debts receivables of up to P10 million. The write of will be booked in December 2012.

ALI highest bidder for FTI Property

Property Developer Ayala Land, Inc. disclosed that their bid of P24.33 billion for FTI Property was declared the highest bidder among other participants. This represents approximately P32,282 per sqm of the said property. 

EDC Income Rise 350%

Geothermal Company Energy Development Corporation posted a net income of P5.7 b
illion for the first half of 2012 reversing the P2.3 billion net loss registered same period last year. Revenues from First Gen Hydro Power Plant and Green Core Geothermal Inc. were the company’s main income drivers.

Vista Land Posts 25% Net Income

Property Developer Vista Land & Landscapes, Inc. reported a 25% increase in first half net income to P2.19 billion from P1.74 billion same period last year. Sales continue to remain strong, posting 47% growth.

URC to Purchase International Unit

Snacks food and beverage company Universal Robina Corporation disclosed it will purchase 23% of URC International Co., Ltd valued at P7.2 billion. URCI manufactures, markets and distributes consumer food products in China, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong and Singapore.

First Gen Posts $92.8 million Net Income

First Gen Corporation reported net income attributable to parent of $P92.8 million from $16 million loss same period last year. Affiliate Energy Development Corporation mainly contributed to the increase in earnings.

PSE Net Income Grows 86% in First Half

The Philippine Stocks Exchange, Inc. announced its net income increased by 86% to P324.41 million from P174.80 million same period last year, mainly due to higher listing and trading-related revenues. Three companies conducted initial public offerings during the period; GT Capital Holdings, Inc., Eastwest Banking Corpor

ICT Award 75,000 Shares under Stock Incentive Plan

International Container Terminal Services, Inc. awarded 75,000 shares to selected members of management at an average price of P70.80 under its stock incentive plan. These shares were deducted from treasury shares.

CPG Reports 91% Increase in Net Income

Property Developer Century Properties Group posted a net income of P944 million, up from P496 million or 91% same period last year. The company has continued to be aggressive in its marketing strategies for its newly launched development projects.

GT Capital Core Net Income Posts 51% Increase

Investment Holding Conglomerate GT Capital Holdings, Inc. (PSE:GTCAP) disclosed P2.6 billion core net income up 51% from P1.7 billion same period last year. The increase was attributed to higher net income contribution from associate Global Business Power Corporation.

ICTSI Net Income 17% Higher

International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (PSE:ICT) disclosed its first half net income to $70.30 Million up 17% from $60 Million last year. The higher income is attributed to the modest growth in volume and revenues and lower financing charges. Full report can be viewed here.


Thirteen Firms Vie for NAIA Road Project

At least 13 firms including some of the country's biggest conglomerates have expressed interest in bidding for the proposed P13.575 Billion Ninoy Aquino International Airport Project (NAIA) expressway project. The companies included San Miguel Corp, Metro Pacific Tollways Corp, DM Consunji, Inc., Ayala Corp., Macquarie Capital Securities, EGIS Projects, MIS IL and FS Transportation Network, Megawide Constructions, EEI Corp, Alloy MTD Philippines, J.E. Manalo Construction, Daelim Philippines, and C.M. Pancho Construction.


SMC Net Income Up 31%

San Miguel Corporation (PSE:SMC) reported P14.1 Billion consolidated net income, 31% higher than last year. CEO Eduardo M. Cojuangco Jr. said that its highly diversified portfolio helped the company to post strong results. SMC has holdings in beer, liquor, soft beverages, food, packaging and power, and fuel and oil. 


CEB gets its 39th Aircraft

Cebu Pacific Air (PSE:CEB) accepted delivery of its 21st Airbus A320 unit, 39th in all among its aircraft. Its strong presence in the market has made it the Philippine's largest national flag carrier, with plans of purchasing 21 more aircrafts until 2021.
